Azalea Cup 2012

For the 3rd Annual Azalea Cup, the action was moved to the football field at Augusta Christian Schools and held on Saturday, December 8. Clubs from Augusta, Charleston (SC), and Greenville (SC) participated in the round-robin, 10-a-side format. Augusta fielded 10 players and added one player each from three clubs, Hampton Roads (VA), Raleigh (NC) and Carrolton (GA). In the first match, Augusta hung with Greenville during the first half, and was only down by a goal at the break. Then the Gaels poured it on the second half to claim the 20-point win. In match number two, Augusta and Charleston remained evenly matched until the very end, but the coastal boys eked out a 2-point win. In the final match that decided the Azalea Cup Champion, Greenville and Charleston traded goals and the lead in a nail-biter until the final whistle. But the Gaels came out two points ahead, going undefeated on the day and claiming the cup.
